project365 week 52 + 53...

1. Glen practicing! He has his Bachelor in Trumpet Performance but I haven't heard him play in

    about 15 years. Crazy. He played for my family on Christmas Eve (O Holy Night) and it

    brought me back to 1997. I wish he still played.

2. My niece organized a ping-pong and foosball tournament on Christmas Eve. Here's my dad

    playing for the first time since 1964! It was really nice to see him having so much fun.

3. Brown paper packages tied up with string all ready to go.

4. Glen got a boat. He traded a bunch of old motorcycle parts that he didn't want anymore. So we

    got a free boat and got rid of a bunch of crap. Pretty good deal. It need a bit of work (what boat

    doesn't?) but not too much. He's looking forward to spring.

5. Glen got a couple of tattoos. Here they are in progress. I'll post photos of the tattoos when

    they're healed up and his arm hair has grown back. 

6. I needed help with my right hand. Missy was pretty interested in what was going on.

7. I love my new kindle. The best part is the built in dictionary! Just touch the word for a couple

    of seconds and the definition pops up. So great. 

1. There's a cat sleeping on my feet. So of course I couldn't get up to make lunch. 

2. The very last photo of 2012's project365. And how fitting. My new year's resolution is to knit

    a sweater using this gorgeous yarn from brooklyn tweed. The sample skein and shade card

    arrived in the mail today. Perfect.

Well, that's it. I did it. 

One photo every day for a year. 

They weren't always the most beautiful photos but I really enjoyed this. 

It's really nice to be able to scroll back through and remember the little things that are so easily forgotten. 

I think I'll make a blurb book too. 

Maybe a week per page. 

I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it again this year, but when I woke up this morning and realized I didn't 'have' to take a photo today, I felt a bit sad.

project365 week 50...

1. Glen made me breakfast. Yum.

    year. Time for a little break to enjoy the holidays.

1. A present for my niece's 10th birthday.

2. Frosty morning.

3. Wild and Heart featured lucky14 handmade on their beautiful blog. Much thanks to Diane for the

    lovely visit.

4. She just has to touch the yarn. It's like her security blanket.

5. I bought these beautiful wood postcards with pop out seagulls from here. 

6. Christmas cards plan A. 

7. We have 3 small throw rugs in our entire house and the cat managed to puke on two of them.

    On the same day. Super.

project365 week 47...

1. Sunday knitting.

2. Babysitting this super sweet boy for a couple hours. 

3. Just leaving my office. I turned around to make sure my computer was sleeping and I caught

    this just in time (our anniversary date).

4. Orders all ready for shipping.

5. Found a place for my little lamb from here.

6. In my office.

7. Missy found a really comfortable spot to hang out. She's actually holding herself up with her

    right paw. Weirdo.

project365 week 46...

1. This was the stormy day at the cabin. It made for a really cozy day inside the cabin. Wood-

    burning stove, eggnog lattes and knitting. Perfect.

2. A rainbow ending in the ocean on our way home.

3. Finally found eggnog at the grocery store, which means homemade eggnog latte season.

4. Lovely as wood-burning stoves are, they sure do stink up your clothes. Luckily, we had a

    beautiful sunny day so I could air out my jacket.

5. The office door was open, the sun was streaming in the window and reflecting off the door

    into the hallway. A beautiful glowing pink hallway.

6. Sending out colour samples.

7. Filling orders.

project365 week 45...

1. Glen picking the winner of my first giveaway. Thanks again to everyone that participated.

2. Setting the clocks back an hour means it's dark at 4:30pm. Which sucks. This photo was taken

    in my office looking out into the hall.

3. So very happy that America made the right choice. Phew.

4. I made a book of instagram photos from our New York / New England trip through blurb. Thanks

    to The 10 Cent Designer it was free (well I upgraded to hardcover and had to pay for

    shipping...but still!). I've made books with blurb before so I knew it would be great. And it was.

    I want to do this for all my trips now.

5. There are giant mushrooms growing in our backyard. Lots of them. Neat and also kinda gross.

6. My new t-shirt from the make-it show. (ole originals)

7. We went up to Glen's family cabin for the long weekend. We had a sunny day, a stormy day,

    a bonfire. Lovely fall weekend.

project365 week 44...

1. Out for a neighbourhood walk. Beautiful, warm, sunny fall day.

2. Something captivating out there. Probably a crow.

3. And a grey grey day.

4. Halloween. It absolutely poured rain all night but we still had 145 kids come to our door. One 

    very sweet girl told me I was beautiful. She got extra candy. 

5. Yarn is just so damn tempting.

6. I held my first giveaway! The rules were simple...just 'like' my facebook page. When I hit 100 

    likes, I'd draw a name and that person would win a Windsor Warmer (pictured). I started the 

    day with 52 likes and ended it with 105. Thanks everyone! (And congratulations again to 

    Kristin).

project365 week 43...

1. I made a super delicious pumpkin cake for a belated Thanksgiving dinner at the in-laws. I got 

    the recipe from my sister-in-law who got it from here. It's a bit lopsided but tasted great 

    nonetheless.

4. Restocked on my favourite candles. I get the vanilla. These are the only scented candles I like.

    Doesn't smell fake at all.

5. A gorgeous fall day. Although I was inside knitting all day, I popped out to take a photo of my 

    tree and the beautiful blue sky.

6. Oops. Watching Project Runway. Not paying attention to my knitting. (You might have to look

    closely to see where the pattern reverses).

project365 week 42...

1. We got in at 2am Sunday morning to find a lovely birthday gift surprise from my mother-in-law

    on the dining room table.

2. I picked up Little Miss from her 2 week adventure at my mom and dad's. She was happy to be 

    home. Cuddlier than ever. I learned later that she never settled down while she was away. She

    meowed the whole time. Which sucks. Not just for her, but for us. What do we do with her next 

    time we go away??

3. Back at it. Starting to fill orders from the One of a Kind show. Thank you to all who ordered! 

    And thank you for your patience. I've shipped all orders except one...I'm waiting for the yarn. 

4. We got back from New England just in time for the explosion of red here on the west coast.

    Gorgeous.

7. I bought this lovely paper cut card at the Glass House and I thought I'd lost it / accidentally 

    thrown it out! Thankfully it was just tucked in a suitcase pocket. Phew.

project365 week 41... new england cont.

1. Americans know how to put on a fair. This one, the Fryeburg Fall Fair, in Fryeburg Maine was

    fantastic. Huge and thoroughly American. I absolutely loved it. We spent about 4 hours there. 

    From the brochure:

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FRYEBURG FAIR

The West Oxford Agricultural Society (present- ers of the Fryeburg Fair) 

was incorporated on June 3, 1851. 

Originally nine Maine towns were included, with six New Hampshire 

towns added in 1888. After moving from town to town for the first few years, 

a permanent fair site was purchased in Fryeburg. 

After nearly 30 years it moved to its present location, north of town, with the 

purchase of 26 acres for $133. The first fair was held there in October 1885. 

During the next 100 plus years it has expanded to 180 acres 

and includes 100 permanent buildings, with over 3,000 camping sites. 

Currently, about 300,000 attend the fair annually. 

2. In Vermont. On my birthday. As fall is my absolute favourite time of year, this day in Vermont,
    filled with gorgeous fall foliage, was pretty perfect.
3. The Vermont Country Store. Wow. This place is huge. And really neat. Definitely worth a stop.
    We actually almost missed it! I fell asleep in the car and happened to wake up right as we
    drove past the store. No really, we were literally driving right. past. the. store. Although I'd told
    Glen numerous times to keep an eye out for it as I wanted to check it out, he was pretty
    obliviously just driving along. Anyway, we went. We saw. We bought a can of New England
    pork and beans.
4. Sleepy Hollow. Not as cool as you might think. But oh well. It was on our way.
5. Amish country. Lancaster Pennsylvania. Although this area is filled with mostly cheesy touristy
    'amish' crap that isn't actually made by the Amish, it was still neat to experience. My family is
    Mennonite so I guess I feel a small    connection to the 'plain people.' We certainly weren't
    raised in the old order. We had tvs and phones and cars and jeans. But I was interested in the
    history of the Mennonite and the Amish and what the main differences between the two are.
    I just enjoyed being there. There's certainly something intriguing about their way of life. I did a
    bit of research after we got back. This site was clear, simple and informative.
6. We walked across the border via the Rainbow Bridge from Niagara Falls, NY to Niagara Falls,
    ON. I'd never been to Niagara Falls so we figured we might as well incorporate it into our trip.
    The falls themselves were beautiful. We wouldn't have made a special trip any other time so it
    was nice to get to see them. The town however, horrible. What is up with that? It's like some
    kind of crazy haunted house Disneyland on steroids. So awful. When/why did Niagara Falls
    get so cheesy?
7. Waiting at the Hamilton, ON airport. On a miserable, grey, rainy day. At this point we just want
    to be at home but have 2 flights and a layover in Calgary to look forward to. Blech. But really,
    nothing to complain about. We had a fantastic trip. Pretty sure we'll go back.

project365 week 40... new york / new england!

1. Our amazingly beautiful hotel room at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg Brooklyn. It's called a

    Manhattan View King. The photo doesn't show the full extent of the view. It was incredible. 

    Every single thing about the design of the hotel and the room was perfect. Glen and I decided 

    we could both live there. However...we were on the 5th floor and there was a night club on the 

    6th floor. Not cool. We ended up switching rooms a couple of times. The staff was all super 

    friendly and accommodating and in the end they even comped our room for one night and

    reduced the rate of the other two nights. So no complaints. And we'd definitely stay there again.

2. Our first full day in New York was a gorgeous warm and sunny fall day. We decided to do the

    Empire State Building while the weather was cooperating. We each paid $10 extra to get to the 

    front of the line. Why doesn't everyone do that?? Then, after we'd already paid, they told us we 

    got a free 90 minute harbour cruise included. Fantastic! So that's what we did. And this is a

    shot as we pass under the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge.

3. The second day rained. All day. Pouring rain. But it was surprisingly warm. So we bought a 

    couple of cheap umbrellas and walked. Soho, Greenwich, 5th Avenue, Central Park. I went to 

    Purl Soho and it was just as lovely as I'd expected. We didn't do any other shopping. We really 

    just wanted to be in New York...see the buildings, hear the taxis, feel like we were in an

    episode of Law & Order. We went to the Guggenheim Museum but didn't go in...we're not 

    really into art. Instead, we picked up some Dean & Deluca on Madison Avenue and had a 

    picnic at the Guggenheim. 

4. We picked up our rental car in Brooklyn. After driving through in our taxi, we wished we'd had 

    an extra day to explore. Glen doesn't actually really enjoy travelling. Or at least he has no real 

    desire to do it. When we go somewhere he has a good time but he could stay home and be 

    perfectly content. But, just the other day, he said he wants to go back to Brooklyn. Works for

    me. We really didn't hang out there at all. We got our car and headed out of town. So this is 

    just a shot of a brick wall I liked. As we sat at a red light. The rest of the day was filled with

    interstates and traffic and chaos. Until we hit Connecticut. 

5. The Glass House. So incredibly beautiful. I was a bit worried that it wouldn't live up to all the 

    photos I've seen. But it did. The plan was to see the house and continue on our way, but they 

    weren't offering tours on the day we arrived in New Canaan, and you can't access the house if 

    not on a tour. So we decided to stay. It's one of my favourite buildings ever so we thought it 

    was worth losing a day of driving. And it was. 

6. Connecticut is gorgeous. The entire state. Again, I was a bit worried that New England wouldn't 

    live up to my idea of it. I thought all the movies or tv shows set in New England I'd seen were 

    surely faked in some way. Well, they weren't. It truly is that pretty. And Connecticut is the 

    prettiest. All the fantastic 18th century colonial homes. The perfect little towns. The winding 

    tree-lined roads. Everything. 

7. One example of how perfect New England is. This is in New Hampshire. Just so pretty!

project365 week 39...

1. Had afternoon tea with some lovely ladies for a friend's birthday.

2. lucky14 sign all ready to go.

3. Just a new bag that I thought looked pretty hanging on the front door.

project365 week 38...

just a few weeks late...I was kinda busy. 

catching up now.

1. Glen made a lamp for my table at One of a Kind (Ooak) out of bits and pieces he had around

    the shop. 

2. Creepy legless cat.

3. A beautiful tea towel arrived from my good friend living in Singapore...an early birthday present.

4. Assembling hang tags for Ooak.

5. Attaching those hang tags.

6. My coffee sleeves in the Vancouver Sun!

7. I had a bunch of vinyl labels of my logo made for the show. Glen is being very serious about

    applying them to the sign he made.

project365 week 37...

1. It's sock season! Brand new socks (made in Canada!) and a kitten trying to eat a ball of yarn.

2. My favourite new sweater. Only $14. And from Walmart of all places. Who knew?

3. More Ooak prep. My fabulous mother-in-law made fabric labels and stamped and attached all

    these tags for me. Thank you.

4. On my walk to the mailbox. 

5. More beautiful end of summer light. The morning light in the kitchen is one of my favourite

    things about our house. We're planning built-in seating in this kitchen nook. I have it designed

    and drawn. Now we just need to wait for money and time to do it. I can't wait to have a cozy

    morning spot to have my coffee.  

6. And more Ooak prep...labeling.

7. Glen found these metal letters at the scrapyard. And he didn't think I'd like them. So he didn't

    buy any! Of course we had to go back so I could look for myself. Other than not having either 

    of our initials, they're perfect. We got there at 5 minutes to closing so were in a bit of a panic. 

    No time to really think things through. They only had about 5 letters (but multiples of each of 

    them). So I figured I'd just get a 'd', 'k' and 'a' and decide which I'd use later. Grand total $13.50!

    About 5 minutes into our drive home, Glen suggested I should've taken an 'o' as well so I could 

    spell 'ok'.

    Great. You couldn't have thought of that 5 minutes ago?! 

    So of course now I desperately need an 'o'. Which means I'll be heading out to the scrap yard 

    first thing monday morning. 

project365 week 36...

1. I've been wanting this faux taxidermy moose for quite a while now, but didn't really want to pay

    full price. I finally found him on sale at a lovely local shop - red brick furniture. (their website 

    isn't great) Not sure where to put him yet. 

2. The moon at 8 am.

3. Just some really pretty end of summer light streaming in the living room window.

4. A bit of a chill in the air. Mustard. And knitting. Feels like fall.

5. Watching the Democratic National Convention. Happy to be Canadian but wishing I could vote

    for Obama.

6. I forgot to take a photo today! I'm really not sure how that happened. I remember thinking about

    it a couple of times throughout the day but someone still managed to forget. So I took this

    photo Saturday morning. Tiny sign of fall.

7. Stormy skies today. The rain didn't show until a couple of days later. It was really gross and

    muggy all day.

project365 week 35...

1. The last day for fresh farm berries at Driediger Farms.

2. This turned into a graphic design week. I worked on hang tags on Monday. I think I've decided

    which ones I like best. What do you think?

3. Knitting with neon yarn. Again the photo doesn't show the true colour but it's bright. Really

    bright.

4. New photo postcards. (I've actually changed the design since...to match my new headers).

5. Pink easterlies fingerless gloves.

6. New header for the shop and blog (did you notice?)

7. Trying to wind yarn with a playful cat that likes to chew on things. 

project365 week 34...

1. We just got back from our Idaho/Montana/Alberta road trip and I'm starting to plan our New

    England road trip. I am really looking forward to it. Fall is my absolute favourite time of year

    and we're going at the peak of fall foliage season. It's going to be fantastic to spend 2 weeks

    in the middle of all those gorgeous colours. Usually, on road trips, we just drive...no plan, no

    real destinations. We stop when we're tired. This time, I'm going to try to do a bit more planning.

    We'll see how that goes.

2. Some dramatic flowers from my garden. Another gift from my old boss. And I finally figured

    out what they're called...crocosmia lucifer. Maybe not the prettiest name but definitely my

    favourite plant in the garden. 

3. Neon pink pedicure. The photo doesn't show just how crazy bright my toes are.

4. My niece told me my outfit matches my laundry room. I definitely did not plan that but

    she's absolutely right.

5. There's a beautiful nursery right near my house - W.I.G. (wester independent growers) - that

    specializes in exotic succulents. They're actually the only place in Canada that carries them. I

    went to have a look and was overwhelmed with the choices. So I left empty-handed. (I went

    back with Glen on Saturday and picked some. Now I just need to plant them)

6. Our house. That grass in the front is about 5'-6" tall and that little clump of yellow on the left

    are actually a form of black-eyed susan...and they're about 8ft tall. Crazy. Remember what the

    house looked like when we bought it 5 years ago?

7. More flowers from my garden. This is the first year I've had enough for a bouquet. 

project365 week 33...

1. Road trip continued...Glacier National Park.

2. Alberta. We missed the Canola blooming by about 3 weeks so it wasn't nearly as pretty as the

    last time we went. But I still love the prairies. 

3. And back in Keremeos for peach milkshakes on our Anniversary (13 years).

4. We decided to leave Little Miss at the kennel / kitty hotel at our vet while we were gone. She

    seemed to miss us. She's been way more cuddly / needy since we got back. 

5. I decided to take better photos of my coffee sleeves so I started gathering supplies / props for

    a  photoshoot.

7. We had a cat visitor at the door. Little Miss wasn't too impressed. 

project365 week 32...

1. Way too hot to do anything.

2. Beautiful sunset. Too bad there're ugly houses and power lines in the way.

3. The first, super early, signs of fall. 

4. Road trip! We started out towards the Okanagan (interior of BC) for some peach milkshakes

    before heading south into Washington State.

5. Made it to Idaho, which was really beautiful. We only saw a small portion of the northern 1/3

    of the state because we cut across on Route 12. But what we saw was gorgeous. 

6. Montana. Cows on the wrong side of the fence and Glen in a field checking out bones spotted

    from the highway.

7. Back in the Okanagan...Keremeos specifically. Found a beautiful, quiet campsite on a lovely

    green field next to a river.
